None of them are considered Cute.Īs of Generation IX, there are 82 Fighting-type Pokémon or 8.02% of all Pokémon (counting those that are Fighting-type in at least one of their forms, including Mega Evolutions and regional forms), causing it to tie with Dark as the 9th rarest type among Pokémon after Ground, Rock and Steel and before Fire and Poison. In Contests, Fighting-type moves are typically Cool or Tough moves. On average, Fighting-type Pokémon have the highest physical Attack of all types. Aside from Normal, the Fighting type pairs well with every type offensively, with each type combo being good with at least six different types. Notably, the combination of Fighting and Ghost-type attacks deals at least neutral damage to all type combinations bar Normal/Ghost.

Additionally, many Fighting type Pokémon can also learn Poison-type moves to deal with Fairy-type Pokémon, as well as Dark-type and sometimes Ghost-type moves to deal with Psychic-type and Ghost-type Pokémon. Most Fighting-type Pokémon can learn Rock-type moves to counter the Bug-type- and Flying-type types' resistance to the Fighting-type.

Ghost's immunity to Fighting-type attacks can be nullified by moves such as Foresight or Odor Sleuth, or ignored by Pokémon with the Abilities Scrappy or Mind's Eye. It is the only type that deals super effective damage against the Normal type.

The Fighting type is tied with the Ground type for being super effective against the most amount of types, with five. Fighting-type Pokémon with a secondary Dark type have their weakness to Psychic-type moves completely immunized. While the Fighting type has three different weaknesses, Fighting-type Pokémon with a secondary Steel type have the advantage of having those three weaknesses neutralized, leaving them only with Steel's weaknesses.
